Step Toward Your New Wooden Floors in Hackney ‘A Table in.. in Afromosia Teak veneer’
Sounds a wonderful way to impress the neighbours – though it’s all fantasy in a scene written by Hackney’s most famous playwright..
You could certainly have a plain teak floor, though pine or oak are rather more likely – and affordable. Either way, when they’re looking under par, shabby and scratched, it’s time to give them a fresh look.

Why Choose Us for Your Needs?
The playwright is the great Harold Pinter, the tailor’s son who made his name with a series of disturbing, not quite everyday, yet very funny plays from the late fifties to the 1980’s.
‘The Caretaker’ was his first big success in which two brothers – one mentally disturbed, the other with his own manipulative agenda – have a power-shifting relationship with a disreputable, lying, petty-thieving tramp.
Pinter has a genius for creating menace and tension while casually throwing in the names of everyday places and things. As in the quote above, where the brother Mick runs through the ways he could turn the flat into a penthouse by bringing in the latest interior designs and modcons.
Oddly enough, none of this seems to date, as the problem of alienation in our fast changing, techno-obsessed society is as acute as ever.
Let’s be grateful for the predictable stability of the wooden floor!
